Ready to upgrade your outdoor living for the season ahead? Now is the time to get started.
“Don’t wait to begin if you’re in the market for patio furniture. The earlier, the better, in order to have everything ready to go for summer,” said Kaylie Wynthein, a design consultant at Montgomery’s.
“We have quite a few of our larger patio sets on display at the store, and if you pass by our store, you’ll see several Adirondack pieces outside. With patio furniture, we backstock our display models so that they are available right away.”
Here are seven design tips to consider as you gear up for the warmer weather ahead.

There are new options to consider
Montgomery’s continually is sourcing new and emerging options for outdoor furniture.
“We had two designers who went to a showroom recently from Summer Classics, and they said everyone was dying to sit in the new Como collection’s set,” Wynthein said. “It’s so comfortable, it’s great-quality furniture, and the design looks beautiful.
You’ll now find the Como collection on the showroom floor at Montgomery’s.
“It’s perfect for creating a summer oasis,” Wynthein said. “The backing on the pieces we have on the floor has a wicker look; however, this group makes their wicker furniture by weaving aluminum through it, so it’s going to last. It’s that strong. And the cushions are extremely plush but with fabric that’s easy to clean off if you spill. It’s just extremely comfortable, durable furniture.”

Speaking of durability — it makes a difference
There are plenty of places to buy patio furniture — but they all don’t hold up to the elements the same.
“We like to educate clients and set expectations so they know how long this furniture is going to last,” Wynthein said. “Some pieces need to be maintained yearly and aren’t meant to stay out all year. We have options that deliver both style and comfort, but you’ll want to bring in the cushions at the end of the year and maybe get some covers for the chairs.”
There also are pieces that are intended to stay outdoors year-round.
“We sell furniture from Homecrest, for example, and my mom has had her set for 25 years,” Wynthein said. “She’s had to resling a dining chair once in 25 years, so they’re fantastic as far as quality, and she leaves them out year-round and covers them during the winter. So we want to make sure our customers understand what to expect when they make their purchase and how to maintain it.”

Consider adding low-maintenance color
There’s a reason the classic Adirondack chair is so popular — “because they truly are year-round chairs,” Wynthein said. “You can leave these out all winter, they don’t require a lot of maintenance, and they’re very heavy, so they’re not going to blow away when summer winds come our way.”
They also come in a rainbow of colors and are made of 95 percent recycled material.
“The bright colors can be really fun for a lake home, and even if we don’t have them in stock, many of these products have quick ship options. They do have some less-exotic colors as well,” Wynthein said.
Not all Adirondack chairs are created equal, though.
“You could go to big-box store and get a chair that looks like the same style, but it’s not going to perform with the same quality,” Wynthein said. “We carry chairs that are handcrafted Amish pieces, so we know where they come from and know they’re durable.”

Accent pieces add to summer relaxation
It’s easy to think dining set and sofa with patio furniture, but the extra pieces can bring a whole new level of outdoor living to your space.
Montgomery’s has a fantastic selection of swivel chairs and rockers in multiple styles.
“You can select your fabric and change the metal, plus we have some double swing benches if you want to sit with a partner or cozy up with a book,” Wynthein said. “A couple of these even have footstool options if you want to throw your feet up, so it definitely makes summer lounging easy for everybody.”
A selection of firepit tables also offers a fun way to add gathering spaces.
“We have an Adirondack style for firepit tables, as well as stone-top ones that are beautiful and allow you to pick the color of the stone,” Wynthein said.
“We also have extra side tables and coffee tables, so you can create a living room feel outside, as well as potters for plants.”

A little light goes a long way
The Montgomery’s design team has access to tons of outdoor lighting options, so have that conversation while you’re in considering new furniture.
“We have some clients with a covered patio or four-season room, and we are always able to assist with lighting there,” Wynthein said.
“We also have people who enjoy using ceiling fans outside if they’re able, and we have options that are temperature rated for this purpose. If you want to hang lighting and create some fun designs in your outdoor space with it, we’re more than happy to help.”

New pool furniture can make a splash
Montgomery’s also can help furnish your pool area — even inside the water.
“We have a couple new pieces this year, including a pool chair that’s meant to sit on the edge of a lake or on the shallow step of a pool,” Wynthein said.
“The waves are meant to crash over you as it sits in the water, very low to the ground. It’s made of a composite material that can get wet, and the chairs are super-comfortable with different height levels.”
Montgomery’s also offers poolside loungers, “so you can sit poolside or lakeside in style and comfort while lounging,” she added.

Don’t see exactly what you want? You can customize
Just like inside your home, the design experts at Montgomery’s can help you create exactly the look you want for your outdoor living.
“We have great stock if you want to pick something out right away; however, there’s always the option to customize,” Wynthein said. “You can choose your finishes, you can change fabrics, you can usually change colors on metal or aluminum bases, so there are a lot of options as you create a summer space, and we can help pick colors and fabrics to make sure it’s exactly what you envision.”
While you might need to allow some extra time, “that’s why it’s good to start now,” Wynthein said. “We’ll still be able to order and deliver your pieces so you can enjoy them for the season ahead.”
