If your carpet has seen better days or life has done a number on your laminate, changing up your flooring will provide an immediate upgrade you’ll enjoy every day.
“I think flooring creates the biggest impact in a room,” said Gretchen Stanford, flooring manager at Montgomery’s. “It’s something that could stay with you as long as you’re in the home, so it’s a big decision, and our goal is to help customers make the right decision.”
Whether you’re designing a new home or updating your current one, the expert Montgomery’s team can guide you from flooring selection through installation. It’s among the many complimentary design services you’ll find at all locations.
“We really like to start by talking about your lifestyle,” Stanford said. “Often, a big consideration involves pets. We’re able to guide you to surfaces that will be durable and pet-friendly. We can also cover flooring that’s a good fit for households with kids and go over what you need to know about maintaining your flooring of choice.”
The team is able to accommodate a broad range of budgets, she added.
“We have a lot of different product options for a variety of budgets,” Stanford said. “We want to lead all conversations to a place where you feel comfortable making choices you’ll love.”
Tech advances
Technology in flooring has come a long way and continues to evolve, she continued.
“If you haven’t shopped for flooring in a while, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised,” Stanford said.
With luxury vinyl plank flooring, for instance, “the textures are so much more realistic,” she said. “It has completely changed. You’ll likely not be able to tell the difference, and the durability and water resistance have improved noticeably even in the last five years.”
Carpet also has evolved to include “cozy textured statement carpet with dark colors, warmer colors and technology that offers a new level of protection and durability,” she said. “We’re also seeing carpet going back into hallways and living rooms. It’s not just for the bedroom anymore.”
It’s a good reminder of why you should work with a designer, Stanford added.
“We’re able to show you the bigger picture,” she said. “Most people have not done this often, if ever, so we’re able to help you think about things you might not realize and guide you through a process that can sometimes be overwhelming.”
Design enhancements
While flooring sometimes can feel utilitarian or generic, that’s not the case at Montgomery’s.
“I just saw a home where the customer selected a different carpet for each space in the home,” Stanford said. “They could do this because of their work with a designer who helped them choose something that was both functional but beautiful even with different types of flooring.”
Clients also continue to gravitate to hardwood flooring, she said.
“We’re seeing fewer cool, gray tones and more warmer tones like honey oak, walnut, chestnut — just really timeless flooring,” Stanford said. “A lot of people are willing to invest in flooring because they know they’re going to have it for the life of the home.”
Large-format tile and more natural stone have been trending, as well as visually interesting tile.
“We have some tile in our Montgomery’s store that’s fluted. It’s a unique tile shape that doesn’t just lay flat but adds some dimension to a space, and I think we’ll see more customers interested in that,” Stanford said.
Patterns in flooring have become popular too.
“One of my favorites is herringbone — we’re definitely seeing that — along with chevron, in addition to longer planks and textured surfaces in flooring,” Stanford said. “They’re either wire-brushed, low-sheen or matte, and those are all things we’re starting to see more.”
Installation made easy
Your Montgomery’s designer continues to support your project until and even after your new flooring is in place in your home.
“We’re communicating closely with them along the way. We’re not just setting them up with an installer,” Stanford said.
“We’ll continue to be involved, meeting with the installers and taking a final look at the project. We’ve been doing this a long time and are able to ensure everything looks as it should, and then we’ll follow up afterward to make sure you’re enjoying the product and that the process went smoothly. We truly care and want you to love what you get.”
