The decades-long relationship between Montgomery’s and Malchows will soon culminate in a 55,000 square foot showroom, slated to open this summer at 3502 7th Avenue SE. Montgomery’s is excited to announce the purchase of Malchows Home Furnishings in Aberdeen, SD, forming a strong partnership between two long-time SD family-owned furniture stores by combining over 200 years experience in fine home furnishings. A fourth Montgomery’s location will be built in Aberdeen later this year.
As we continue to work through these times together, we are warmed to have the acknowledgment of others. An outreach of the Beacom School of Business at the University of South Dakota has featured a few local businesses and their innovative approach to continuing to serve the communities they are in. Montgomery’s received an Act of Excellence recognition from the SD Hall of Fame for being an organization that has helped build a culture of excellence in South Dakota, one of nine organizations across South Dakota recognized in 2020. Montgomery’s has been in business since 1888, longer than South Dakota has been a state.
“From operations to marketing, merchandising to human resources, and everything in between, Eric consistently drives the business forward. He is never afraid to step outside the box and try new things to improve. He demonstrates a fierce passion for furniture, family, and community. Following his parents’ family rule to “ … get a college degree and work for someone else before you have a job in the family business,” he became a sales rep for Rowe Furniture, where he landed the Rep of the Year award.”
